Founding partner Buzz Durio specializes in selected commercial business cases.  With 37 years of legal proceedings in areas including business and commercial litigations; banking and financial institutions; mergers and acquisitions; and shareholder rights, he has conducted trials, appeals, arbitrations, mediations, review panels, and administrative hearings in city, parish, state, and federal trial and appellate courts.    After receiving a bachelor’s degree from Louisiana State University in 1977, Buzz received his Juris Doctor from the University’s Paul M. Hebert School of Law.  
 
Buzz has been involved as a member, on committees and in leadership positions in the Louisiana State Bar Association since 1980.  He is the immediate past treasurer and member of the Board of Governors of the State Association.  As a tribute to his service, the Louisiana State Bar awarded him the Stephen T. Victory Memorial Award (2010) and the President’s Award (1999, 2004).  Buzz is a member of the Bar of the Louisiana Supreme Court, the United States Supreme Court, the Eastern Middle, and Western Districts of the United States District Court, the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Court of Appeals Federal Circuit. He is also involved with the Public Investors Arbitration Bar Association, is a member and fellow of the Louisiana Bar Foundation, American Bar Association and was named a Louisiana Super Lawyer with a Martindale Hubble Peer Review Rating of AV Preeminent 5.0 out of 5.0.  Buzz’s work has been published in the Louisiana Bar Journal, the Lafayette Parish Bar Association’s Promulgator, the National Business Institute Inc. and Louisiana Law Review.  The legal community respects Buzz’s expertise and has asked him to present to his peers on topics including “Sales of an Interest in Law Firms” and “Business Torts.” 
 
An Eagle Scout, Buzz is loyal to the Evangeline Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America serving in various capacities from Assistant Scout Master to District Chairman and currently serves on the organization’s Executive Committee as VP-Properties.  He has volunteered as a coach for soccer, t-ball and baseball.   He and his wife, Renee Abadie Durio, are dedicated to Our Lady of Wisdom and Fatima Catholic Churches and have three sons and one grandson.

Founding partner Gary McGoffin handles a wide range of business and healthcare litigation cases.  Admitted to practice in 1976, Gary has memberships in the Louisiana State Bar Association, United States District Court Eastern, Western and Middle Districts, the United States Fifth Circuit of Appeal and the Lafayette Parish Bar Association. 
 
Gary attended University of Southwestern Louisiana (now University of Louisiana at Lafayette) from 1970-1973, continuing to earn his Juris Doctor in 1976 from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University.    He has served in the Louisiana State Bar House of Delegates, as the Lafayette Parish Bar Association president, and is a recipient of the Crystal Gavel Award.
 
Gary is heavily involved in giving back to the community and has served as Chairman of the Board of the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce, as Chairman and Trustee of the Lafayette Public Trust Financing Authority, as President of the Lafayette Public Library Foundation and as President of the Evangeline Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America.  In 2010, he was awarded the prestigious Civic Cup which recognizes one individual a year who has made a significant contribution to Acadiana.

Founding partner Bill Stagg provides experience, expertise, and leadership to the intellectual property and healthcare practitioners at DMSA.  Bill received his Juris Doctor degree from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University and was admitted to the State Bar of Louisiana in 1982.  Bill is a member of the Bar of the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeal for the Fifth and Federal Circuits, the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Middle, and Western Districts of Louisiana, and is registered to practice in the United States Patent and Trademark Office.  He has an AV rating from Martindale Hubble.
 
Bill holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree (University of Louisiana at Lafayette, 1973) and Master of Civil Engineering degree (University of Houston, 1977).  Prior to practicing law, Bill practiced civil and structural engineering in Texas and Louisiana where he was a registered Professional Engineer.  He is a member of the Louisiana Engineering Society and he remains registered as a Professional Engineer (inactive) in Louisiana.
 
Bill is a member of the Board of Directors and a past president of the Acadiana Inn of the American Inns of Court, a member of the board of directors of the Lafayette Parish Bar Association, a Fellow of the Louisiana Bar Foundation, and an Assistant Examiner for the Louisiana bar exam.  Bill serves as counsel for the Board of Trustees of Regional Medical Center of Acadiana and Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Lafayette. 
 
True to his Eagle Scout background, Bill is a life member of Ducks Unlimited and enjoys hunting, fishing and shooting sports.

Jeffrey Ackermann became partner in 1995 and practices primarily in the areas of business and litigation, specifically in bankruptcy creditor’s rights and contract, corporate, commercial and property litigation.  Jeff joined the firm and the Louisiana State Bar in 1985.  Having attended Ramapo College of New Jersey, Seton Hall University and Louisiana State University Paul M. Hebert School of Law, Jeff holds a B.S. in Economics (1981), B.S. in Business Administration (1981) and a Juris Doctor (1985) respectively. 
 
In addition to the Louisiana State Bar, Jeff is authorized to practice in the United States District Courts for the Western, Middle and Eastern Divisions of Louisiana, the United States Bankruptcy Courts for the Western, Middle and Eastern Districts of Louisiana, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, the Judicial Panel on Multi District Litigation and the United States Supreme Court. Jeff has represented creditors before various Bankruptcy courts in Texas, California and Delaware.  He is a certified Arbitrator for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (“FINRA”) which oversees nearly 5,000 brokerage firms and over 663,000 Securities Dealers/Representatives.  Jeff’s cases have been reported in such publications as Commercial Factor (2008).  He is an Assistant Examiner for the Louisiana Bar Exam and a Lecturer for the National Business Institute.

He is a life member of the National Rifle Association and enjoys the outdoors and family and takes particular pride in his extended wilderness hikes in Montana, Wyoming and Utah.

Jim Shelton specializes in business and healthcare litigation at the firm.  He originally joined the firm as “of counsel” before being made partner in 2003.  Jim’s experience includes insurance defense, medical malpractice and professional liability litigation.  A graduate of Northwestern State University, Jim received his Juris Doctor from Louisiana State University Paul M. Hebert Law Center in 1980.  
 
Jim is a member of the Louisiana Bar Association, Lafayette Parish Bar Association and the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel.  He is admitted to practice in United States Middle and Western Districts, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and United States Supreme Court.  He and his wife, Marcia, live in Lafayette and have two daughters, Lacey and Erin.

Randy Guidry represents clients seeking assistance in personal and litigation issues. In 2000, Randy was admitted to the Louisiana State Bar. He is a graduate of Southern Technical College (1991), the University of Southwestern Louisiana (currently the University of Louisiana at Lafayette) (1997) and Southern University Law Center (2000) where he was magna cum laude.  He is a member of the Louisiana Trial Lawyers and practices criminal, personal injury and general civil litigation.   Randy has three sons, Derek, Andre and Luke.

Ryan Goudelocke joined the firm in 2006 focusing on healthcare compliance, counseling and litigation. His areas of expertise have since expanded to include patent, trademark and copyright law; oil & gas transactional and litigation work; and governmental representation. 
 
Ryan has served on multiple committees for the Louisiana State Bar Association, including Right to Counsel and Legal Services for Persons with Disabilities; and has served on the board of the Lafayette Parish Bar Association’s Young Lawyers’ Section. He is a parish bar association volunteer for the underserved, and former board member of CASA (Court-Appointed Special Advocates) of South Louisiana.
 
A registered patent attorney, Mr. Goudelocke also is admitted to practice before Louisiana state courts, in the Western and Middle federal district courts of Louisiana, and before the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. He was named for 2015 and 2016 a Louisiana “Rising Star” by the SuperLawyers rating service. He is a National Business Institute and parish bar association continuing legal education (CLE) lecturer.
 
A Texas-born Lafayette native, Ryan attended Episcopal School of Acadiana in Cade. After receiving his bachelor’s degree magna cum laude from Oglethorpe University of Atlanta in 2000, he worked as a newspaper crime reporter before earning his Master of Mass Communication (2004) and Juris Doctor and Bachelor of Civil Law degrees (2006) from Louisiana State University. He was in law school a member of the Trial Advocacy Board and a member of the Wex Malone Inn of Court. Since beginning practice, Mr. Goudelocke has been a member of Lafayette’s Inn of Court of Acadiana and the John Duhe Inn of Court.
 
Ryan and his wife Carolyn have one daughter, Vivian, and two dogs.

Travis Broussard joined the firm in 2011 as an associate. In January 2017 he was elected a director.  Travis practices general civil and business litigation with a focus on business disputes, including business torts, shareholder litigation, and contract litigation.  In 2016, he was named Outstanding Young Lawyer by the Lafayette Bar Association.  In 2016 and 2017, Travis was named a Rising Star in the area of Business Litigation by the Super Lawyers publication.

Travis is the City Attorney for the City of Opelousas and an adjunct professor of law at Southern University Law Center, where he teaches Special Problems in Commercial Law to second and third year law students. 

Travis currently sits as an At-Large Representative on the Louisiana State Bar Association's ("LSBA") Young Lawyers Division Council and serves as LSBA's Civil Law and Litigation Section's secretary/treasurer.  Travis is the immediate past-president of the Lafayette Bar Association Young Lawyers Section. Travis previously served as a member of the 2013-14 Leadership LSBA Class and co-chaired the 2014-15 Leadership LSBA Class.

Travis received a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology from Louisiana State University in 2003.  Travis received his Juris Doctorate degre, cum laude, from Southern University Law Center in 2010.  In law school, Travis competed nationally in trial competitions and was named Best Advocate among more than two hundred students at the Fall 2009 Peter James Johnson National Civil Rights Trial Competiton in Long Island, New York.  Travis was admitted  practice law in Louisiana in 2010.

Travis was born and raised in Opelousas, Louisiana. Away from the office, Travis enjoys saltwater fishing, fantasy football, golf, and philanthropic opportunities.

A member of the firm’s intellectual property group, Chase Manuel focuses on intellectual property prosecution and litigation. Chase works with clients on drafting and submitting patent and trademark applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, licensing and assigning rights for issued patents and trademarks, prosecuting and defending intellectual property infringement suits, and general civil litigation.  In his personal life, Chase was an active member in the Boy Scouts of America where he achieved the organization’s highest rank of Eagle Scout.
